This poem, Too Hot To Handle," with a somewhat different original graphic, can also be found
under the main poetry section, "Intimate River Sounds," of my larger Intimate River web site. I first created the graphic
for that page, Too Hot To Handle, as a CD design project for a graphic design class.
We were given the name, Michelle Turtle, to work with, but somehow I found a way to include Sarah
looking up from the corner. A friend told me I should write a poem to go with the CD, so I did.
While the poem, itself, has nothing to do with Sarah Brightman, I was listening to her video, "One Night In Eden,"
almost every night at the time, and felt it had a strong influence on how the lyrics for this particular poem came out.
It has been said that every artist needs a muse.
Sarah Brightman certainly is the muse for this part of my
web site, and all the graphics to be found here, but beyond that, she truly has been a muse for me as a sculptor
over the last year and a half. I often think of her when I am working on my large sculpture/fountain, and while I would love
to give my sculpture her voice, hands and eyes, it's more the essence of what she represents that I'm after.
The ability to take your talent and your artwork to the highest level possible, to raise it to a world class level!
I should note that the face in the original "Too Hot To Handle" image, is not from my sculpture. There is a large sculpture community
and a couple of sculpture parks in Loveland, Colorado, where I live.
The face is a from a sculpture by Glenna Goodacre. I often go to
this and other sculptures to study their features. Sometimes I bring along a hand, a foot, or even a head from my own sculpture.
You may be able to see
the difference in detail and finish, between the photo of my woman's face to the right, and that of Glenna's.
