Sun up, and Im on my way
SUN UP, AND I'M ON MY WAY Part 1 Anthem For The Earth (Jerry's Song)
8 by 8 by 8 today
(note: read 8 by 8 by 8) Each step I take
I plant my prayer
Sculptured footprints
Written in Pine, then Fir
My gift of work
For this torn up earth
Blistered by fire
To heal its tears
My gift of Youth
For these clear cut forests
Pungent with slash
To grow back and talk
To tell us this story
Of the Intimate River
Where chiseled footprints
Stand thick in glory
I hurl my hoedad
Down the line
Crack that soil open wide
Through sacred ground
I lead the way
Bare roots flung down
Pulled down, straight down
Come alive, be alive
Every where
Behind rock and stone
On mountain side
I find my self
A place to share
This gift of life
These seedling prayers
Slip a fir tree here
Plant a second pine there
Each tree A branch
From natures hair
A canopy of love
Teaching this world
Her depths of care
Come alive, be alive
Everywhere
Sun up and Im on my way
Sundown and Ive planted a forest today
My father was out on the line each dawn
Beating the heat and bringing his song
"I am a Mountain, I am a River
I am a child of God So Strong
I am this land where I belong"
"Planting my trees by the specs each day
Through Canyon and Mountain I test my blade
Covering each bank so God and man
Can grow together, hand in hand
Sun up, and Im on my way
Sun down and Ive planted a forest today
Sun down and Ive reclaimed some mud and clay
Sun down and Ive shared this way to pray
To kneel here on this forest floor
And plunge my roots
Into natures care
Come alive
Be alive
Everywhere
sh~shh~shhh~sh~shhsh
Natures sleeping.
