Art Designed While Listening to Brandon's Fluvial Shifts Music
To Generate Ideas For Possible CD Covers
Artwork by Gary Lange

Faluvian Shifts

Fluvial Shifts was done in Corel PhotoPaint. Once again colors were mixed and scraped together randomly until form emerged. This time something reminded me of some large ceramic wall pieces I'd enjoyed in an art gallery in Santa Fe years ago. The large piece was made of many small tiles. Each one had multiple slips and stains on it creating a beautiful overlay of color. This is as far as I've taken this idea for now.

Time

One of the song titles on Brandon's sample CD was titled "Time Out Of Time" It became the working title for this piece, which evolved out of a saved version of the quilted pattern above. The nice thing about computer graphics is you can save an art piece, make a duplicate with a new name, and start playing around with the duplicate. It is easier to see how the next piece evolved from this one, then it might be to see how this piece evolved from the quilt pattern, but it did.

Butterfly Time

I played around some more with the clone tool that had jump started the second design. I then used a magic wand and placed some butterflies. While I like the butterflies, too many are too bunched for my taste. These three designs were done over the course of a day, while keeping Brandon's CD in the computer, and listening to his music constantly. What I wanted to see was how would his music effect me if I approached the computer in a purely reflective mood. I tried to stay open to what might happen as I played around. It was a good thing I saved my designs from time to time, some paths I went down were disasters!
