Primary Photoshop Web Design Tools

Large books, and lifetimes are spent defining and mastering graphic applications like Photoshop. Take note that this web site is meant as a graphic introduction only. Follow the hyperlinked headings below to learn more about "Paint Options," "Lettering Options," and Layering Graphic Images."

Working With Paint And Paintbrush Options

There are a number of different types, widths, and effects available when deciding what brushes to apply or what paint to use. I like a good tutorial to follow that pushes me into trying new things. I also like to experiment. For books, "Adobe Photoshop 5.0, Classroom in a Book," has helped me a lot.

Adobe Paitshop Layers Pallet

For experimenting, just grab a brush and some paint and start making some marks. Above is a color palett. You get to design your own color here. It's a lot like writing, either draw up an outline of what you want to create, or just start that first sentence, that first brushstroke and see what it suggests.

Working With Text And Lettering Options

The text options that are available in Photoshop are nowhere near as versatile as might be encountered in a draw program such as Corel Draw, or Adobe Illustrator, but there are still many things that can be done, and it is wise to learn as much as possible in this arena.

Working With Layers And Merging Options

Layering in graphic arts is the ability to separate out different layers of a design so as to work on them separately. Note that the words in the banner at the top of this page were designed on a separate layer from either the rectangle or the oval. I could work on any layer at any given time without affecting the others.
